Default Vets cane top

Some of the members of are carving cane tops for the Vets. Then they'll be sent to another club and they put on the turned sticks. then they'll be sent out with imfo as to who carved it. This is my top. and basically we all used the same pattern. I wood like some suggestions as to how I wood finish it. I was thinking of doing the whole thing in golden oak the painting the eyes feathers and beak. Can I put water colors over golden oak stain? comments and suggestions welcome

MA, burning and carving is not the same as playing with matches and knives.

I would use waterd down water colors to get a washed effect, very nice work I love the idea of more then one club participating in a project.

if you woodburn a line between where you want to stain and where you want to paint...if you don't get sloppy, the burn line will stop both the paint and stain, as for paint, I would use acrylics...they can be thinned with water as well.
