I've noticed a lot of references to using thinned down oil paint added to tung oil or Watco Danish oil when finishing. Does the tung/Danish oil thin the paint or is the paint thinned with mineral spirits, tupentine, etc. before it is added to the oil?

The tung oil (and Watco but haven't tried it) WILL thin the paint, but it has been my experience to get the process started with mineral spirits first....just a bit. I have had trouble getting to get the paint to mix well without cutting it a little first.

Thanks, Mitchell for the response! I've been away on business for awhile and I just tried tinting some WDO this weekend and I liked the result! Thanks for the heads-up about thinning the oil paint first and then mixing with the WDO - it worked out well!
