Default staining basswood

I have tested the backside of a completed relief carving prior to applying the fininsh. I used Minwx Bombay Mahogny satin stain. It took 3 days to dry and I keep it in the backyard because of the wife's complaints of odor, I gota agree, it's smelly stuff. Any thoughts on how to mask the ordor is greatly appreciated. The carving is deep relief with a showbox border which is what I want to stain.

The only thing I have found to help with the odor is a well ventilated area. I always stain in the garage with the door up and fans blowing.

Odor is a problem with any oil based product...you definitely have to use that stuff outdoors! As you are finding out, drying time can also be a problem because petroleum products just take longer to dry. I would let it dry a little longer, then try sealing it with an acrylic sealer...that might help. The odor will get better over time.
