Default problems with finishing a relief rose

I finished carving a relief rose and put a Deft semi-gloss finished on it this morning. Thought it was dried but when I was using a brown paper sack to knock down the rough edges the semi=gloss finish start coming off. I either have a piece that has not completely dried or cured or bad semi gloss. I am going to wait another 24 hours befor I do anything with it. First time for me. Will have some pictures later.
Looking at the weather meters, one says low humidity and the other one says dry. I wonder if the stain was dry, Again, felt dry to the touch.
edited- Well, I couldn't keep my mits off of it. Lesson learned. Quit why you are ahead. Yep, I made it worse.. Not only did I mess it up more, while working on it I broke one of the three leaves off. Stupid mistake for sure but lesson learned again, don't put to much pressure on a delicate thin piece of wood. Oh well, I will jus carve another rose for my Mother in law. Maybe!

I have basicly answered my question to my finishing problem. " Moisture " The carving drawed dampness from the staining to the finishing.

Well, I think that is the problem. Letting it set now to see if it will dry out more.

Deft is laquer. It dries fast to the touch. It doesn't harden or "cure" for a week or more. I've been using it since the .....oh never mind. A long time
Let it "cure" a little more next time. BTW, I like 0000 steel wool to smooth it.

Thanks Makenchips. I have also use Deft ever since I can remember. Well close to it. It wasn't the finish but dampness before I applied it. Even where I had let it set for 48 hrs, It did the same thing. Never had a problem with it before but this time, the piece set out in the garage for a couple of days before I put the finish on.
I appreciate your input.
Thanks

Kenny,

Did you use an oil stain or water base?

Water based stain! have used it countless of times and same finishing. But this one was out in the garage/shop for a couple of days before I started the staining/painting.

Now , It has been inside the house for 24 hours and I have sanded down and started over on the rose bud.
