| | I prefer paint instead of markers On the thread about using markers for details I started talking about my preference for a good brush - a Winsor Newton.
When painting a carving I LOVE details and I love a good brush. Here's an old carving about 13" tall with some detailed acrylic painting. |

It allowed me to post only one photo ...... I'll try again
What I'm trying to say is that you can paint any sort of design if you have a good brush. |

| | Re: I prefer paint instead of markers Hi Nancy
Thanks for your tip on your "magic" paint brush! LOL If it was only that easy to paint so beautifully like you do.
I Do have a question--I was looking through your albums on your website. I spotted the Santa in your "Woodcarved Santas II" album. Beautiful!! My question is this: do you paint from you imagination, or do you have swatches of cloth handy or maybe a quilt that you use for a "model" when painting your patterns--for example, Santa's quilt bag? I bet I'm asking you to give up a secret--if so, I won't tell a soul--Honest!!!
Thanks,
Bob L |

| | Re: I prefer paint instead of markers THAT IS AMAZING!!
Interesting that I am coming to the same conclusion, although my "detail" is not quite as beautiful as yours! I used one of the "good brushes" to do some eye detail and I was surprised at what I could do...
I'm not much surprised by what YOU can do, your work is really great, IMHO.
I especially like the bear, he's "cool"!

| | Re: I prefer paint instead of markers Nancy, your piece is just stunning! And I have to agree completly with your comment on brushes. I too love the Windsor brand and couldn't live without the ones you mentioned. A bad paint job on a great carving just makes it look bad.Early on in my experience I had good paints and lousy brushes,,,the paint jobs were terrible! I got some good brushes and it transformed my work. I personally believe a good brush will do wonders with mediocre paints. Whereas a bad brush will not help using even the best of paints.
Cheap brushes are usefull for spreading glue in dowel holes.Good brushes ,,to me,,are worth their weight in gold. |

| | s-h-h-h-h-h * SECRET for Bob L * Hey Bob L This is just for you, OK. Erase it as quickly as possible, Promise?
Painting those bags could drive me crazy so I kept track of the print as I made it up for gift boxes.
I have a tiny bag of gift boxes..... see?
I had to scan those for you. APPRECIATE THEM . BTW - you're free to print them. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
