Susie - You know I'm not painting now ~sigh~ and it's CHRISTMAS. I have your address .... I'll send you a 000 Winsor Newton brush so you don't have to wait for a sale.

And I want to talk more about Michele and Dave Stetson. There isn't enough space to say just how NICE they are. Their carving and painting is a dream ... and their personalities are a rare treat. Dave is SO funny as he teaches and carves. And, Oh, how he teaches !!!! He teaches carving almost as well as Michele paints - lol lol lol

He's featured in the book I "think" you can see here on the right - CARICATURE CARVERS. He is wrote the book CARICATURE CARVING FROM HEAD TO TOE. Both are a delight. You know I'm not a caricature carver but I love the books like I love the Stetsons.

Hey!! Decoy carvers have been using those kinds of markers for years for vermiculation and such. As everyone has noticed, they do a nice job. Great work!!!!!!!!!!!

jbcarver,

i too have used markers for stripes on shirts and stuff the one that i have used that do not bleed with the blo is the micron markers i think these are sold for scrapbooking, micheals has them as does a.c.moore. another thing that works great for stripes is a woodburning pen set at a low heat this can be done by trial and error to suit. what i do is to first pencil the lines lightly to make sure they look good and then burn them in i do this before i wash my carving so the washing gets athe leftover pencil off.

hope this helps

bart

Nancy, you are an angel...... and you shouldn't be sending away your good brushes....but thank you. I can't wait to give this brand a try. I usually just buy the Lowel Cornel with the black handles from Michaels. They are decent, although after I try the Windsor Newton, that opinion might be altered forever.

I do want you to be painting though...... Please tell me you are just too busy for now. I print up pictures of your paint jobs on Santas just for inspiration.....

Susie --yesterday I stuck the nice Winsor Newton brush in a clumsy - very clumsy -- tiny box stuck in a brown envelope --- it will make it to you soon.

I buy stacks of them when Dick Blick has them on sale. Just like I buy stacks and stacks of Lowel Cornels when I see them on sale (never at Michaels who I think is too expensive) for the not-so-picky paint jobs. Dick Blick will give you an artist's resource catalog free so ask at www.dickblick.com to be put on their mailing list.

You might also try Jerry's Artarama. They are on the web, have great sales and quick service. I, too, browse the sales bin area for brushes. Between the wood grain, which is coarse, and the oils and thinners few brushes even with the best of care last long.

I use markers called painters. They come in differant colors have a fine or medium paint acid free and filled with acrylic paints. I get them at wal-mart. So far I haven't had a problem.

Irish/Susan ~ thanks for the Jerry's Artarama informatiom. I'll be looking there .... even if I can't imagine anything better than Blicks. (Did you guess I was a Blick shopper 20 years ago?) I LOVE brushes.

When an expensive brush gets old and worn, I just switch it to the "everyday" jug and don't worry about it. I'm going to have more of the "fancy" brushes in the special box.

Dave - THAT's why your carvings look so cheap !!??!!?? *joke*
