| | Painting supplies This has probably been asked and answered somewhere on the board, but being the lazy person I am, I will ask again instead of searching past posts. As a long time relief carver, I seldom use paints for carving. Since I have expanded my carving adventures to in-the-round,I am faced with the need to buy more than the basic colors for some recent carvings, which are currently naked as a jay bird. Does anyone have a recommendation for a supplier of paint supplies. Also is there a quick reference guide for 'if you mix this color with that color - you get this - a helpfull hint type guide based on some of the available colors. I guess my shoe polish days have probably outlived themselves. Thanks for the help.

| | | Re: Painting supplies Try Wasco.com it stands for wildlife artist supply's. also you should ask for a free catalog. It is a taxidermist supply company but they also cater to the woodcarver. They have patterns for different animals, scale patterns for fish, duck decoy blanks, how to make habitat for animals and fish also several different books on carving and many different kinds and colors of paint including airbrushing paints and techniques. I have ordered and used alot of their products and am very satified. |

| | | Re: Painting supplies Most carvers use hobby acrylics (I think bird and fish carvers are probably exempt from that statement, not sure) which are readily available at WalMart, Hobby Lobby, etc. Being relativelly new at the paint thing myself, I found the pocket color wheel available at WalMart to be very helpful for mixing colors. Other times I just ask on here. |

| | | Re: Painting supplies Most of us seem to be using the craft brand acrylics.
This is Delta Creamcoat site: http://www.deltacrafts.com/Literatur....asp#paintTips
It probably has just about all you need to know about their brand and conversions charts for the other brands.
I recently picked up a copy of WCI's Painting & Finishing Guide and its a really great resource for those just beginning to paint, and those with experience who might want to try something different. |

| | | Re: Painting supplies Sorry, reading this I realized I forgot to give you the web address. www.taxidermy.com. check it out, I believe some of you will like what they have. I am not a taxidermist or a salesman for WASCO, but they do have descent prices and lots to offer for woodcarving and the paints are not just for wildlife and fish, they offer hundreds of colors. |

| | Re: Painting supplies I think any txidermy supply will have these paints, or similar paints.. I've not used their paints (yet) but have had good seveice on eyes, etc from Van Dyke's www.vandykestaxidermy.com Â*
Somehow seems to be allied with Cabela's
So far I've been doing good with the 'hobby store' acrylics.
