Default new question for Lynn

Lynn,I tried your formula for skin colors and wet on wet painting style on my cowboy and I like it!!!! There is going to be a learning curve as it really doesn't seem to take much wash. After you paint your carvings do you seal them and with what? Thanks so much for all your help. I tried to find the answer to this by searching your posts, do you know there are over 500? Very good rainy day reading. Thx Arnie

Ahhhh......the learning curve. That's what it's all about! No, when I show people just how much paint I use when doing flesh they are truly amazed that there is almost no paint at all. Once the figure is completely dry I give it a coat of Polyurethane, wiping off the areas where there is heavier paint with a paper towel. If you do this make sure you use only a paper towel and not cloth or kleenex. Those last two will leave residue. If any shiney areas are left once the figure dries completely I will spritz those areas with Testors DulCoat.

Problems with the Minwas can... I used to lose about 3/4 of a can of the poly because after taking the lid off the can and putting it back 3 or 4 times, it got bent or creased in places on the rim, and couldn't get a good seal anymore, so the poly would set up. I solved that by just pouring the Minwax poly into a clean, ordinary, Mason jar, then putting a clean lid on it. If the lid gets, it's easy to replace. I store the glass jar in a box with a lid to keep it away from light. Haven't had any more poly set up on me in quite some time.

In all the years I've use that varnish I've never finished a can. It always sets up about half way through. Once it turns a dark amber color I toss it. Thats why I always buy the small cans.
