How do y'all achieve a finish that allows the grain to show threw your works? I have tried to make my pieces have it, but I always seem to have my paint too thin or thick. Also, does pre-linseed oil treatment help with this?

Parker... Some of the guys and gals are firm believers in pretreament. I just thin the paint down with water to the point where the grain comes through. A trick I use is to paint over a sheet of newspaper and test the paint on the newspaper. If it's so opaque that I can't read the print then I haven't added enough water.

I use the newspaper print trick as well for acrylic washes.
