| | FYI pretty Cheap 2oz bottle Paint caddy After collecting 40 or so 2 oz bottles of plad, folk art, americana paints and sealer it became a problem in storing it as to where i could see the different colors.
While at walmarts or biglots i found some rectangle baskets ment to stack. they are 7 1/2 x 8 1/2 x 6" tall with 1 3/8 holes in the side of the basket.
i remembered that you can get lazy susan berings at lowes, $7.00 so by combigning 4 baskets and the bearing aproximently $15.00 i got enough storage for 44 paints per rack x 4 racks..
i cut a section of 3/4" plywood and attached the bearing then attached the first box to the wood, then stacked the other bozes on top. and connected them togather with zip ties.
beats the $29.-49.00 metal rack for price. and if i want to collect more paint i just add a rack... now if i can get it out of reach of them 2 year old grandchildren, i know they will want to ride paw-paw's new toy...
included photos may help

its a alternative to the big wire moster sold at hobbie shops, certinly cheeper and easy to find replacement baskets if needed, the baskets were found at a dollar store,
the bottles in the wire rack lay horizontal, this rack lets them tilt a little downwards inside the box, they wont fall out if a kid spins the rack...
and you have space inside for duplicates and the top makes a great place to keep yout few adhisives, or a jar full of brushes handy
If i had it to do over again i would have scraped the bur out of inside of each hole as the manufacture leaves a little burr inside where the bottles rub, and its a little rough on the lables,
but it works fine i have 2 made 4 teers high as i cant manage orginization with hues and shades well going color blind i think..
the paints keep going on sale for $0.25 here and i cant remember which ones i got so there is lots of dupes,
it will get wobbly if you go 5 baskets high.
guess i ought to enter this in the poor mans tools huh? |

| | Re: FYI pretty Cheap 2oz bottle Paint caddy That is an absolutely fantastic bit of Louisiana backwoods ingenuity if I ever saw any! Those "millions" of little paint bottles are the most unorganized part of my work area and this looks like a good solution.
I'll have it in mind this weekend when I make my one (of two) monthly trips into the big city. Thank you kindly for sharing this. |

| | Re: FYI pretty Cheap 2oz bottle Paint caddy Being in a RV, I think you got the right idea,
an rv is like living on aboat in if everything isent stoed properly youll have it all at your feet if you hit the right bump,
although i dont think none of the paint would shake out of my rack, it might put too much stress on it and crack the plastic where you would screw the racks togather..
good idea for rving | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
