I'm not a big fan of pastic trays for mixing paints. I find them hard to scrub clean. So mostly I use a variety of small porcelain bowls and saucers for paint mixing. However, I found a nice porcelain egg tray awhile back that works really well as a paint tray. I think I paid 7 or 8 bucks but it was worth it, imo. Very handy and easy to clean.

That looks like a great help, Terry! I use a square of butcher paper with the shiny side up and just mix on the paper. My carvings are generally small, so I don't need more than a drop or two of paint on the paper... Claude |

Terry, I use the plastic ice cube trays, but like your idea better. May have to be on the look out for one of these. Where did you find yours? Safe Carving and God Bless, Mark |

Good question Mark. I think it was Meijers but I can't recall for sure. I saw a bigger one a while back but I thought it was too big. This one was the right size for me.

I use a scrap piece of mirror tile. When the paint dries you just scrape it off with a razor blade knife.

Terry, that's a great idea! You could put plastic wrap over it for short periods of time so the paint doesn't dry out if you had to leave it and go someplace. I paint on cloth for art quilts, so this would be perfect for that.

Terry that is a good idea--at least until my better half caught me :<). To put it mildly she is a bit "possessive" about her egg plate!!! LOL Merry Christmas

Hmmm. When you first posted I thought "plastic" even though you specified porcelain... and the plastic thingie I use IS hard to clean...I might just have to go back to Target and get the porcelain one.
