Wink detailing (engravings) before staining

I am working on a walking stick which I have engraved detailed work.
Can I use ink for my detailing(outline) before I stain?
I would be very grateful for any and all comments.
Thanks Tuck

I would be afraid that ink would be to liquid and seep into the surrounding wood.

Have you thought about using a gel stain? Wipe it on, filling all the details, then use a cloth to wipe the gel off the rest of the wood. Test it first of course but I suspect you can fill in the detail and stain at the same time using this method.

I'm not clear on what you're asking. Have you got a photo? I do agree with Kitaye. What ever it is your trying to accomplish I'd be afraid of the ink running.
