Default chainsaw carving finish

I'm a newbie. Just trying to finish my first chainsaw bear. What is the best way to stain (I want a light brown bear) and the seal the bear? It will be outside but under a porch.

Thanks

commercial stain and exterior varnish, several options. Most chainsaw carvers use spar varnish, but it turns light wood an amber color.Keep it dry and in the sheltered porch and you could get away with using just about anything. Sun and standing water are the enemies of wood.
