Default Blending base and piece matching colors

Hello, I want to make a scene on a basic base with a snowman and a pine tree, similar to the old rudolph the reindeer cartoon narrator scenes.

I want the base "painted" like snow, I'm thinking of using sprey texture I saw at a craft store, but I'm afraid of the white on white camoflauging the snowman. How should I go about blending the two? Am I over thinking this, will it work fine?

Thankyou very much everyone

There have been a couple of threads with techniques for making excellent snow. I seem to recall that one was from Lynn Doughty. Maybe someone here can point you to them.

OutWestWoodCarving: Snow

Essentially dropping white from a toothbrush from above on finished piece. Great method, greater application!

I'm more worried about the entire snow base (enough to have a snowman lol) eating the white snowman, but I think I've figured an idea of just placing him in front of the tree.

You shouldn't have to use the same hue of white on the base and the snowman. Try an "ice white" for the base. It has a touch of blue in it and use a pure white for the snowman. In winter, especially on a clear day, the snow on the ground will have a blue tint. Snow on vertical surfaces wil have a more pure white appearance.

Look at that sample picture you posted and you can see the difference.

Last year I did a winter scene and used DecoArt Snow-tex and was pretty happy with how it worked. It took a little messing around with to get it to texture how I wanted it to, but once I got going. it went easy enough. I have a 7 inch diameter base and put some on the tree in the scene and used about half a 4 ounce container. I'm sure there are better methods, but for the one time I used it, it was an easy solution.
On the back, it says it can be tinted with acrylics, so you might be able to give a little blue to it like Al mentioned. Hope that helps

Eric

I was thinking more about the how the snow on the base was done, and then there's this thread:

Checking His Back Trail.

Then there was another one with (I think) a Santa trudging through the snow, but I can't remember who posted it.

Wow that snow hill is cool. I ended up with the "blue snow" idea, and actually painted it 2 tone like the polar bears base and its drying now, though I may have gone a hair too blue. Will be finished tomarrow once dryed.

While the "Snow" paint is still wet, sprinkle a little bit of ground glass over it. You can buy it in craft stores and it looks like very fine sugar. It gives the snow the sparkle that makes it look real.
