| | "Bartley" gel varnish Hi.
I recently bought Lynn Diel's new book on Flat-Plane Carving The Nativity (great book). In it Lynn uses a gel varnish (clear satin) made by a company called Bartley. I was just wondering if anyone has tried this particular gel varnish and if so what are your opinions on it. Also, where have you bought it? I can't seem to find it anywhere near where I live in Yankton, SD. I did a search on google and there are a couple of mail order places, but thought I'd ask here too. Thanks,

| | Re: "Bartley" gel varnish I have been using Bartleys gel stains for years on caninets and furniture. It works well on woods that tend to "sploch" when stained. This is because the gel stain doesn't penetrate, but tends to stay on the surface. The stain as well as the varnish can be applied by wiping with a cloth. You can make the piece darker by adding more layers of the stain. I have not used the varnish on carvings, but will try. TOM H |

| | Re: "Bartley" gel varnish I buy my Bartleys Gel products at a local paint store CREATIVE PAINTS, but WOODCRAFT stores carry it too. I'll be at the local HD and Lowes tomorrow, so I'll check there also. TOM H | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
