Smile Antiquing Solution

Does anyone have a recipe for antiquing solution that doesn't use Boiled Linseed Oil? Maybe one that uses Acryllic Paints?

walt,

this is a technique i learned from pete leclair, he uses minwax 209 natural stain with burnt seinna oil paint in it for tint, he uses this for a precoat before painting [ after he has painted the eyes and teeth ] then coats the peice with stain and paints it a few minutes afterwards, i have used this technique and like it alot. i want to try it after the peice has been painted using it as antique after paint, just to see how it does. the good thing about the stain is that it dries quicker and the smell doesnt linger as long, another thing i do after i have painted my peice is letting it dry is to spray it with a light coat of deft and letting that dry a day or so and then a coat of howards feed and wax this is a good finish and pretty easy to use, if you have any questions just hollar,

bart

Folk Art Plaid #819 is a ready made Antiquing Medium. It's water based. Whether it will suit your needs or not only you can tell. Cost you less than a dollar for a 2 oz bottle to find out.

(((ahem))) I use Instant coffee granules. Make a paste with them or a thin paint and brush it on. Let it sit and then seal it. I hate to use chemicals. The best part is if I don't like it...I wipe it off with a damp cloth.

Hi Keoma. Half way down this page Claude asked me how I made my wheelbarrow look so old and I explained about "Black Alcohol".

The stuff never fails me.

Walt,
Lately; I have been using Watco's Satin wax, dark, because it is not too overpowering. It is probably similar to LeClairs Minwax.
In the past, I always used the BLO and burnt umber and still like it, but always looking to try something new.
On my last carving, I did a coat of clear BLO, let it dry well, then a coat of dark Watco, then clear paste wax and it turned out well.
Hope this helps.
Jim
