| | Re: What acrylic brand is used the most? most of the caricature carvers use the acrylic in the 2 oz bottle, i am very partial to delta ceramcoat, but will use the americana in a pinch, the ceramcoat seems to mix a little better and is not quite as thick.

Folk Art
Delta Ceramcoat
A pple Barrel
Americana
Reeve's
Daler-Rowney
Academy
Predominately Ceramcoat. It's inexpensive and comes in a lot of colors so you don't have to do much mixing.

| | Re: What acrylic brand is used the most? We've got an article by Vicki Rhodes coming out in the next issue on choosing paint. She strongly suggests that you use artist's quality paint (Liquitex, JoSonja, Crya, etc.) becaues they are guaranteed to be colorfast. Her theory is that you've put so much time and energy into the carving process that it would be a shame for the paint to fade early. If you choose a few basic colors in these paints, you can mix a wide variety of colors, and since the pigment is more concentrated in these types of paints, each tube lasts a long time.

| | Re: What acrylic brand is used the most? No, I haven't seen or used Polly S. I like Americana and ceramcoat--I also use Liquidtex Artist Acrylic. For good covering power on wood the Americana and Ceramcoat are really good (thicker). On larger carvings I use Artist Oil Paints Winsor Newton, Grumbacher.

| | Re: What acrylic brand is used the most? Americana is my favorite as they have the best selection of colors....Ceramcoat, Folkart too.... I have some carvings I painted over 10 years ago with these brands and as far as I can see, no fading yet. If they sit in the sun, I believe any brand would fade or blister. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
