You'll also need to be very careful when removing and exchanging the different blades. That's the one drawback to this otherwise very good collection of palm gouges. I finally gave up and used vet-wrap to wrap a large ball around each of the ones I use most. Doesn't make them portable any longer but does lessen the chance of me jamming one into my hand when changing the tools.

Nice Haul, Grim! That'll keep you busy!

Excellent point, Lynn. I've done more damage to myself pulling tools out of the tool roll than when carving!

I put a piece of foam in the bottom of one of those little plastic drawers you see at K-mart and have my tools loose inside that. I usually get cut when a gouge sticks a little bit and I increase pressure, and it suddenly lets go!

Nice early present Grim, you will enjoy that very much !! What Lynn said is true, when I use mine I turn the pouch kinda to an A shape and pull straight up, never had a problem getting cut. Enjoy !

That is a good set. I picked one up after Christmas last year when Santa forgot about it. I've had a great deal of fun with the set. The Flexcut slipstrop (Carving Tools - PW12 The Flexcut SlipStrop « Flexcut Tool Company) works well for stropping.

I haven't cut myself yet, but I've come close when pulling tools from the roll, so as was said above, be careful!

Hi Grim,

That's a great set. The first I got when I started carving at my first carving show.

As Lynn said, you have to be extremely careful, they're very sharp. I cut my finger on one gouge just reaching to pull another out.

When I got my set, I was in an rv. Now, changing the blades has become a hassle for me. I guess I'll need to get some additional handles with my birthday money.

Anyone knoww where I can get some handles cheap.

As a guard to protect my fingers on my palm and full size gouges, I use various sizes (diameters) of clear vinyl tubing about 1/2" or an inch longer than the gouge slipped over it when in the roll. I write the gouge number & size on the tubing with a Sharpie marker to aid in getting them back on the right one. I haven't cut myself yet when reaching into my tool roll or my tool boxes.

Might be something you'd want to try. Bought a few feet of various sizes from the tiniest to over and inch in diameter. Total bill was maybe $15 at Lowes or Home Depot.

Congrats on your new tools Grim. Enjoy!!!!

Great idea Chuck I might make a few sleeves for them from leather - got plenty out back to play with, it's one of my other hobbies

I use this roll instead of that folding one, looks like your set up now
Carving Tools - SK200 19 Piece Pocket Tool Roll « Flexcut Tool Company
When I bought that same set a year and a half or so ago, the first thing I did was get stabbed by the smal v tool while unpackaging them.
