Default woodcraft 2 blade folder carving knife? any owners

Woodcraft sent me a survey to fill out and receive $10. gift certificate.
i did so, it was a short questionare Apperently aimed at their consideration of putting a store in this area.

after receiving the email certificate 4 days later, i went to see if i needed something they had with basically free shipping... a neat little carving 2 blade folder caught my eye $19.- then $8- shipping...
here is a pic and link, it out to be here wed next week

anybody own one of these knives?

Thomp...

That's a nice looking knife. We have a Woodcraft Store a couple of miles up the road and I walk through it quite often but I can't ever remember seeing one. How about giving us a technical review after you get it. I can't afford a CJ and if this one does the job I agree with Hi-Ho, it would be nice to have one in the truck just "in-case!"

$8.00 S&H? Wow! I can understand how a small dealer might need to charge extra for S&H to cover his expenses but these large corporations amaze me. Here they are charging retail, shipping out of a warehouse, working with large volumes, and getting two to three times the postal charges. You can send a 4 pound parcel post through USPS from Florida to California for $8.29 and I know that that little knife doesn't weigh anywhere near four pounds. The difference must sure make up for a lot of overhead.

i rechecked the S&h it was $6.99 still more than you would think but i guess there is a standard envlope you can pack full oe put in one sheet of paper in that runs $7- but for $16.98 after G.C. guess i shouldnt fuss..

on another dubject i did obtain a kershaw double cross that rick ferry had modified, and their aint no flys on that 2 blade folding, lock 2 blade carving knife,
i have used many times and never dulled it, even though i always hone it before putting it up...

hopefully ill test out the woodcraft knife hopefully wed-thur

Arrival.... of the folding sarge brand 2 blade carving pocket knife.

first opinion-review,
  • Fine looking knife, the cherry color Pakawood inserts are tightly fitted and well set with brass pins, the frame is stainless steel (but magnetic attraction means it will rust stain if allowed) with a single brass linier only between the blades, No blade locking mechanism on ether blade. closed length 3-1/4" with 1" blades about average weight for a knife of this size.
  • but with the blades so short (under 1-1/4th inch long) it looks like its my brother in laws abused knife when folded..
  • Dull, bad dull! the blade at cutting edge is as thick as a businesscard, where it should be microns. and pretty hard as with other tools 320 grit wet dry aluminum oxide paper made little effect on efforts to get it sharp, high carbon stainless steel usually sharpends well with diamond stones
  • 30 minuets on a corse diamond stone resulted in getting the top 1/4th" carving sharp, this one might go to rick to fix, http://lh5.google.com/image/thomp51L...jpg?imgmax=512
  • the blade sets in the handle at a weird angle and will be some getting use to but the angle adds to power of slicing cuts like a real chip knife.
  • but it looks to be a well built knife and worth the $9.00 i spent on it with the $10- gift certificate, S&H was under $7- arrival in 5 days

I've had one 'bout 6 months now,,used it once and it's in the drawer,,Oh,, it sure looks great ,,was going to use it as a regular "pocket" knife,,,,too heavy,,bulky,,awkward to use, just doesn't feel right in my hand,,blades are at an odd angle, beautiful looking knife,,but essentially useless in my opinion,it seems ,like many tools to be designed by someone who never has used the tool for it's intended purpose ,nor ever will,,,now it's a drawer knife,,and will probably never have to be resharpened...
