Default Wood Carving Tool Sizing Chart

I use interchangeable Flexcut gouges, chisels and such which are all sized in "inches". Does anyone know where can I find a comprehensive master woodcarving tool chart that lists and compares inch sizing to MM sizing with blade configurations so that if I run across a MM tool I won't duplicate a Flexcut tool that I already have. The good people at Flexcut have offered to send me one of their catalogs and it does provide the information that I want, only not in the form that I want.

I ran across just such a sheet this past year (but wasn't able to get a copy) that laid it all out in a spread sheet type configuration with the tool types, shapes, tool numbers, and sizing in both mm and inches all in an easy to read format. Any one have any ideas?

Eddy s,
this page shows gouge profiles and a metric/inch scale at the bottom of the page. Hope this helps.

Buy a cheap ruler that has both inches and metric on it. The real key is understanding the difference, or at least having a tool handy that you can look at to figure it out. Metric may make sense, but who needs it! I'm American all the way, but I like to know what the rest of the planet is talking about! I just wish metric didn't make so much sense!

It's a rough gauge, but in my mind I relate a centimeter to 1/2 inch. It's VERY approximate, but helps me wrap my brain around it.

(1/2" is actualy 1.27cm)

Or 12.7mm

I just remember, a half inch is close to 13mm, and work from there.

3mm is very close to 1/8". Therefore, 6mm is 1/4", 9mm is 3/8", 12mm is 1/2", 16mm is 5/8", etc. Mike

I am using a 14mm socket in place of a 9/16" socket.

From a writing perspective...I'd rather switch to metric! The mathematics are a lot easier, and I don't have to worry about making sure the fractions are stacked properly <GRIN>
