| | Re: Whittlin Jack dimensions for Bob L they are hollow ground......that's one of the reasons they are so darn hard to get sharp. Once there is a good secondary bevel on them they hold up really well. They are also stainless...more sharpening difficulties. I still like 'em, though. My favorite roughing knives.

| | Re: Whittlin Jack dimensions for Bob L Thanks Al. The photo and the dimensions are perfect. Sorry I didn;t respond earlier tonight, but we just got power back a little while ago. It's tough carving in the dark. Now I gotta go find my fingers (just kidding!)
BTW--What's hollow ground? I've heard the term before, but I'm not sure what it means exactly.
Thanks again. |

| | Re: Whittlin Jack dimensions for Bob L I guess Dave explained that pretty well, but here's a sketch of the difference between a hollow grind and a straight grind.

| | Re: Whittlin Jack dimensions for Bob L Thanks Al. That explains everything. I was wondering how to grind the concave shape to the knife. It's simpler than I thought. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
