Default Want to make a quick and dirty folding knife?

Something a little different for those of you who make your own knives:

Enjoy!

I made something similar with a wooden handle......a folding strop, leather on one side, a fine grit sandpaper on the other (in case I mess up and chip the blade lol )...for traveling....its handy!

Friction folders are neat. Classic design. Here's one I made awhile back. Not a carving knife, but you get the idea. The handle is Mesquite. Pins are nickle silver.

Nice knife there Plain_Ol_Ed!

Hobo, thanks for the proverbial slap up the side of the head! What was I thinking! I kind of wondered about heating up PVC, but I blew it. I'm glad you mentioned it. Aside from the toxics that come off when heating, the risk of a burn from handling the plastic is there, too. Then if you drop the plastic in the flame, now you got a bigger problem.

I posted the link because there has been some interest in folding carving knives. Now I realize from Hi_Ho_Sliver, and Plain_Ol_Ed, that sawing a channel in a block of material, i.e. wood or metal is the better way to go. So, instead of heating and bending a piece of plastic, I'll cut a slice into a piece of cherry or red oak. Then follow the rest of the instructions.

BTW--since yesterday, the second link became a dead one.
