I have been wondering if it makes any difference if one uses different types of compound on a strop. I have one strop that I have always used aluminum oxide on and nothing else. I have a Flexcut strop that I bought recently that has only used the yellow compound that came with the strop. I am building a sharpening machine I guess one could call it. It has an aluminum oxide wheel, a linen wheel, a hard felt wheel and some leather disks that I have grouped together on the shaft. Will it hurt anything if I use more than one type of compound on the linen, felt , or leather disks? Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom you might share.

Different compounds use different abrasives and/or different grits. I use two grits of valve lapping compound and red jeweler's rouge for my strops.
