| | Unsealed motors and dust explosions My sharpener has an unsealed motor that I have to clean out on occasion.
Tonight, I blew out the dust with some canned air.
Didn't wait for the dust to settle and turned on the switch.
Now, I am pretty sure the eyebrows will grow back in time.
My point is, if dust is properly distributed in the air, with an ignition source present, watch out.

| | Re: Unsealed moters and dust explosions Good to know as I am setting up a make shift power strop with a motor given to me. There's little hair left on my head so I don't need any more taken off.

| | Re: Unsealed moters and dust explosions Watch a grainery burn because of a sprak from a dryer motor igniting the dust.

| | Re: Unsealed moters and dust explosions I don't really worry bout my shop and the dust in the air causing an explosion. From everything I've read it is the lighter dust that is in the air that causes the problem. I just make sure my dust is heavy and the mixture of dust to air is more in favor of the dust. Glad you're ok Rick....But how's the motor?? Tom H |

| | Re: Unsealed moters and dust explosions That works Tom, just pump in some heavy air and your problems are solved! besides, in heavy air, the chips don't float as much either lol |

| | Re: Unsealed moters and dust explosions Tom,
The motor smoked for a while and I had to rotate the shaft to get it to start.
Other than that, I think it will be okay.
I have been checking prices for a sealed motor.
Unsealed $50-60, Sealed $200-250.
