I purchased John Dunkle's Blue Velvet compound and a pig skin strop, the compound is in a powder form. My first question is how do you get the compound to stick to the strop? Are pig skin strops any better then regular leather strops, and last any thoughts on Blue Velvet compound ? Thanks Dave |

I've been using John Dunkle's strop and Blue Velvet for 2-3 years. Both work very well. I just dumped on a little compound and worked it in with a wide 3#. It will stick and really does a fine job. I think Blue Velvet is the same as Yellowstone; just a different color, and powder rather than a solid bar. John and his father Herb had a falling out and John promotes his own products but I think they're pretty much the same. Pigskin is thinner than most other leathers and thinner is better for a strop. Thicker/softer leather will allow your edge to round over time. Give it a try; it will work. Mike
