Default Starting bowls

Hi guys, Been fiddling quite a while on small carving and lathe turning, all from native Wisconsin woods. Wanted to try chisling a bowl and wonder what tools I should start with. Most wood in the 10-12 inch diameter size. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Nozdive

Hi Nozdive,
Issue #40 (fall 2007) had a great article on hewing bowls and spoons, and is available for purchase through Fox Chapel (Woodcarving Illustrated Issue 40 Fall 2007).
For bigger bowls, an adze would be handy, a hatchet, a hook knife, scrapers, sandpaper, etc...
I'm sure that more experienced carvers here could give you a better idea.

Scorps or an inshave, hook knives, some large medium and shallow sweep gouges and an adze. These will all do the job, some better and some faster.
