| | Re: Smokey Mountains Carving Shops Groozier, Its not a carving shop, but about 20 miles north of Dollywood is a little town called Sevierville. On the highway between Sevierville and Knoxville, just north of Sevierville you will find Smoky Mountain Knife works. Not much to be had for buying carvings but they do carry a few carving knives and A LOT of sharpening suppies. This store is HUGE and they have a lot of intersting museum displays on knives and swords through the ages. They have a lot of the ususal tourist items that the rest of the family might enjoy, too.

| | | Re: Smokey Mountains Carving Shops In Townsend, TN, you'll find a great shop by the name of Smoky Mountain Woodcarvers Supply. It's about a 25 minute drive from Pigeon Forge. Take Wears Valley Rd. from Pigeon Forge to Townsend; when you get to the T-intersection at Townsend, turn right and drive about 3 miles. It's on the right. I think you'll find it's worth the trip. Their website can be found at < www.woodcarvers.com>. Good luck and welcome to Tennessee! |

| | Re: Smokey Mountains Carving Shops 8) 8) Â*8) Â*I had a good time on vacation. We went to The Wood Whittlers Shop and I picked up a couple of books on carving. One on the nativity by Helen Gibson and one on 90 dog carving patterns by Tom Wolfe. We went to the arts and crafts show at Townsend, Tn., and went inside the Smoky Mountain Wood Carvers Supply store. I was in awe of all the fine carving supplies and the friendliness and helpful service of the establishment.I went in to buy a Flexcut SlipStrop and came out with over fifty dollars worth of things that I needed but did'nt know that they had it.They gave my son ,who is 13, some carving blanks. I'm hoping that he will be a carver, but I'm not forcing the issue. Thanks for all of the responses that were received. Â* Â*
Â* Â* Â*We also had a great time at Dollywood and Splash Country. I talked to Lee Warren, who is a master carver with 25 +/- years of carving experience, and he was working on a cigar store indian that was about 4' +/- tall. While we were at Smoky Mt. Wood Carvers supply we watched their resident carver Gene Webb carve on a wood spirit. He was using a power carver of some kind.I did'nt get the name of the machine. He was showing a young man how to carve what looked like a dog.Sorry to go on and on ,but I get excited when I see the work of fine carvers. When I got back from Tenn.,I took nine of my best carvings to try to get juried into a big arts and crafts fair in W.V.The name of the show is called the Mountain State Arts and Crafts Fair in Ripley,W.V.They only take the cream of the crop, so to speak, and if you don't get they still critique your work. This will be a big help even if I'm not good enough to get in.

| | Re: Smokey Mountains Carving Shops I've been to the Mountain State festival several times, and it's a real experience. You'll get great food, see great art, demonstrations of glass blowing and knife making, and have a great time. It's only real drawback is the location. There's no place to stay overnight within about 1,000 miles (maybe that's a lie). Lots' of folks come in motor homes and campers. If you got in that show, you had to be good. |

Â* Â* Â*Hey
Â* Â* Â* Â* Â*Don't know if it's still there but there was a carver

Â* Â* Â*supplies. He had some good carvings too. This was 4 or
Â* Â* Â*5 years ago so he may be gone.
