| | Sheath for Ray Gonzalez Hooked Skew I recently purchased a Ray Gonzalez Hooked Skew. I find I'm using it for a lot of things. My question would be how best to carry it around with me, while working in my shop. Something tells me just dropping it in my shop apron wouldn't be the right thing to do.
Thanks

Isn't that one of the most useful tools? I love mine!
I'd suggest a synthetic wine cork; you can just push the skew blade into the side.

| | Re: Sheath for Ray Gonzalez Hooked Skew I just finished making something very similar, doubt its as effective as the Ashley Iles tho! I make all my sheaths out of basswood.but Bob is right, a cork (synthetic) works good! |

| | Re: Sheath for Ray Gonzalez Hooked Skew Thanks I will try the synthetic cork. I'm really impressed with the tool. I use it for my intarsia, to help fit and do some shaping. I find the longer I have it the more I am using it.

| | Re: Sheath for Ray Gonzalez Hooked Skew I'll admit that it's the first tool I reach for in most of my woodworking...from carving, to scroll sawing, to even cabinetmaking. It's wonderful for slicing off that tiny bit that prevents the tenon from sitting perfectly against the mortis...

| | Re: Sheath for Ray Gonzalez Hooked Skew It's many uses is why I was hoping someone had come up with a sheath which could be clipped or attached to the belt. I am forever walking over to get it from where I left it the last time.

| | Re: Sheath for Ray Gonzalez Hooked Skew I use a piece of 1/2" diameter clear tubing--polyethylene I guess. I squeeze so it slips over the blade end of the tool, and when I let it go, it's snug aginst the blade. That's good for the toolbox or laying on the bench, but I think you're better off using a good leather sheath. The Flexcut knife sheath might be good for what you're looking for--it may need a piece of foam rubber to snug it up in the sheath. I check it later on when I get home. http://flexcut.com/products/cart.php...category_id=95 |

| | Re: Sheath for Ray Gonzalez Hooked Skew Put a piece of 1/2" diameter clear tubing--polyethylene--about 1 1/2" long on the tool, and slide it into the Flexcut knife sheath and you're good to go. See the pics.
