We've had several carvers ask about smaller band saws, and even though I'm not a big fan of Craftsman bench tools, I think their 10" band saw is a good value and the right machine for carvers who want to cut out carving blanks. It has a cast iron table, roller bearing blade guides, and a 4 5/8" cutting height. It would be fine for caricatures, spoons, song birds, etc. It's on sale for $159; a good deal for someone who doesn't want to put $400-500 in a 14" saw, or someone who just doesn't have the room for a big saw. Of course, if this saw turns out to be a bucket of bolts, I disavow any knowledge of this topic. |

Of the bench size band saws there is nothing comparable: roller bearing top & bottom guides, miter & fence included, 4 1/4" clearance, metal doors, brush on the upper wheel... I've been trying to take delivery on one of these for about six weeks. At least in New England and eastern New York it's been back ordered until the first week of May. It has been on one sale or another for these six weeks, off and on. But it doesn't much matter if you can't get one delivered to you or a store nearby! ;-) Right now I supposed to be able to pick my order up at the local store on or about May 1st. Russ |

I found one last year on craigslist for $50. It was hardly used because the owner needed a bigger one right after he bought it.

I have a 10" Sears and it does ok but you need to do a lot of fine tuning to get decent cuts out of t.Tony

I have one too and have not found it any more difficult to tune than any other bandsaw. The best upgrade to any brand / size bandsaw is a good blade!
