Default Sand-o-Flex questions

After seeing Lynn's videos repeatedly feature a Sand-O-flex, and hearing him praise it...I asked Santa for one and he brought it to me. The paper that it comes loaded with is 80 Grit, and that sound to me to be a little coarse to put a face I have spent considerable time on under. I carved a few grooves into a piece of basswood with a small V Tool, and they didn't seem to be affected by the Sand-O-Flex, but that might be a different story with an eye or other small details. My question to you Sand-O-Flex users (especially Lynn-if he reads this), is what size of grit do you use in your tool for basswood caricatures. I don't want to ruin a carving experimenting, and need to know what grit size to order if the 80 that came with it is too coarse.

Thanks for your input and I hope you all had wonderful Christmases

I use 300 or 320 grit.

I think 320 is the finest you can get Slow. It is a fantastic tool. Check out supergrit.com.

Thanks for the link Gulf...that is a good price. I was shocked when I saw you can only order replacements from Merit by the 10 pack...that would last a century for a caricature carver. Will get a finer grit ASAP.

320 is the only one I use and even then I'm careful with it as I only want to soften the sharp edges not completely remove them. That link above is a good price!
