Default Re; the PUUKKO knives

Terry (Nomad) asked about more information on the Finnish puukko knife. They are pretty common around here in Gogebic County as we have a strong Finnish tradition around the area. But the only source I could find with good info on the knives is here;
Ragnar's Finnish Knife Catalog
Anyone interested might check on this site.
There are several carvers in our area who use ONLY the Finn puukko, so it is a fairly popular blade. It'a also used as a general purpose, hunting, fishing, etc knife.

Al, I have a pretty good collections of puukkos, probably around 100, including some nice customs. But I was mainly interested in that particular puukko you posted a pic of. I've not seen one quite like that.

That's a good link for buying puukkos. I've been buying from Ragnar for probably 15 years and he's quality all the way. As good as it gets.

Well, it's a pretty sweet looking puukko. I just flipped through my copy of The Knives of Finland by Lester Ristinen and could not find a handle design quite like it. I don't know if it's old or modern. The handle looks kinda old but it could have been made to look that way. I dunno. The blade looks more modern, probably hand forged with a rhombic cross section from the looks of it. Hard to say. I'll send the photo to some Finnish friends of mine and see if they can ID it.
