Default Q: is the wire in a toaster nichrome?

I reciently had the bred toaster go on the fritz,
Well of course like any good ole redneck boy i decidided to see if i could fix it...

i took off the case knocked out the crumbs and rolled it over several times but couldnt find any buttons un buttoned or shoestrings left untied inside it

but i did observe lots of crinkely wire, you know the wire that gets hot...

thinking of my wood burner and knowing the tips is made of a special wire that goes through reheating without deteriation, i talked to myself and said self, ill bet that wire would work for a wood burner tip? well i wasent convencing enough with my conversation with myself, so i decided to ask some body that might know something.

i know nidrochrome wire is really cheap, but i got this wire on hand,,,

would it work?

never mind i found it here

The Heating Element:
Different metals react differently to the flow of electric current. If a metal offers high resistance to the flow of electric current, it is not a good conductor. Because of the resistance of the wire, electric current flowing through the wire causes heat. The best metals of high resistance are alloys - combinations of several metals - like nickel-chromium, better known by its trade name Nichrome.

A toaster's heating element usually consists of Nichrome ribbon wound on mica strips (fig. 3), although some toasters use Nichrome wire coils (fig. 2).

YOU ARE ALWAYS THINKING, IT IS SOMETHING I APPRECIATE, AS IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN AN ENJOYABLE PASSION OF MINE TO MAKE SOMETHING FROM NOTHING OR I SHOULD SAY SOMETHING DISCARDED. DON'T LIKE TO DESTROY, THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING TO BE SALVAGED. I have repaired several old dryers, and they have the coils like a toaster. But on second thought, Cam Merkle puts new tips on my burning pens for $5.00, I like your thought though.

hugh,

Somebody has to think this stuff up somewhere along the line.

i guess it comes from my redneck heritage,
as a baby boomer and there was 6 of us kids, When we Wasent playing game we played more than defencs, fighting between ourselves. we were making something out of nothing, guess it stuck,

I have always hated to stop everything and go to town for supplies, right in the middle of a good spert of tinkering... especialy if i have the same supply onhand,,,

and then too... "now that the toaster dont work" i got to have an excuse why it dont work, when the wife asks Whoos been tinkering around with this....

with the aluminum 1/2 tubing i saved from another project and some 1/8th" brass tubing and welding rod i have enough stuff to make a pen for my optma, in the burnmaster style. and the nicrome wire now from the toaster,

guess the wife gets a new toster for christmas, haw~! i got a new pyro pen if it dont set fire to my burner....

ALL of the above is IN JEST,

i wouldnt chance the possibility of wrecking my $100.00 burner, for a $5.00 item
but the pens for optma are handle and all not just nibs, and $17.00 each,,

the toster wire is wrinkled zigzag its too brittle to straighten, but maybe under heat you could, well I guess this could be a project for when you was snowed in without anything to do .

or really boared

naw the old toaster only had 2 filaments working anyway so it was a 50/50 chance if i could fix it anyway...
anyway who has time for half hour toast anyway,
we been just putting it in the oven for a while now anyway,
she is a school, lunch room lady, and eats breakfast at work most times..

i told her bout the toaster a bit ago, and she flipped like i took apart the car.... again?

after 33 years of marriage you would have thunk she would have not left that toaster where i could get at it. specially with it being broke.....
HAW~!
