Default Proxxon Tools

Â* Â* I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Proxxon tools. Â*I mentioned about getting the Proxxon Pensander for Christmas and I see they have a reciprocating carver also. Â*I was planning on buying a AutoMach and was wondering how the two compare. Â*
Â* Â* The literature for the AutoMach says it cuts at 10,000 cuts per minute, the Proxxon one says 11,000....just wondering if it would be as good....certainly costs a lot less, but sometimes price isn't a real indicater of quality....not often, but sometimes! Â*: Â* I appreciate any thoughts on the subject. Â*Callynne

Â* Â* Okay, since no one ever replied to this I'm figuring that no one had tried this reciprocating carver yet....I hope, I hope because it's too late for any negative thoughts. Â*I sent for one yesterday, actually, my husband is buying it for my Birthday present. Â*Love that man!!
Â* Â* I had talked to Wayne at MDI Woodcarver's and asked how it compared with the AutoMach. Â*He said it should compare very well to it. Â*He said they were selling very well and he hadn't had any complaints. Â*I told him I had a Ryobi and he said I will really like this a lot better.
Â* Â* I will let you all know what I think after I try it out (hubby says I have to wait to use it till my Birthday....surely he won't be so cruel....it's not till the END of the month! Ha! Ha!). Â*
Â* Â* Sure is a big difference cost wise, $300 for the AutoMach and $129 for the Proxxon. Â*Time will tell (and me too! ) Â*Callynne

Well Call...you are obviously the test pattern. Let us know how this tool works out. And as for your early use of the gift, I support your husband. (Hold out hubby for a good back rub).
Cheers & Happy Birthday in advance

I sure am anxious to see how this test comes out, too, Callynne. I vote for TWO backrubs for your husband, so he'll let you get started playing with it early. There IS a big price difference between the Proxxon and the Automach - and we all know that price doesn't necessarily mean quality. I used the Ryobi and it truly is a workhorse - and then went to the Automach, which I consider the most awesome reciprocating tool in the world - but then, my experience is limited to only those TWO : Once you play with the proxxon, please let us know what you think....I'm pondering buying another one soon. I have two automachs, and even so, I could use another one, given the cool-down time I have to stop for sometimes.

Â* Â* Oh Ric, you men are all alike....so easy to manipulate! Â*Not that our devious little female minds would ever even think of doing it to our advantage!!! Ha! Ha!
Â* Â* I'll definitely let you all know how it works out (the carver...not the backrub!). Â*After reading that you had two carvers Teri, I thought, what the heck, I'll give the Proxxon a try, if it isn't all I think it should be (but better than the Ryobi) I'll buy an AutoMach and switch back and forth between the two. Â*Sure would be great if it was really as good, then I could buy two Proxxons for less than I'd have spent on one AutoMach.
Â* Â* I also remember, Teri, your great advice about reinvesting any carving sales money back into equipment and I really meant to do that with my first money only I was going through the mall and saw these terrific boots I had wanted so long on sale...half price with an additional 15% off (just that day, of course). Â*Well, I couldn't pass them up and they just happened to have brown ones in my size also, both pair for less than the cost of one....how could I possibly resist that?! Â*And to take care of any guilt I spent an equal amount on my hubby, not that I was kissing up or anything Ric!
Â* Â* So, anyhow, I'm really glad the hubby is buying me the carver and he'll definitely get the back rub(s)! Â* Callynne

Well I can't deny I use any trick in the book to get a good back rub. But buying a gift early and using that as a negotiation tool was a well kept secret. I'm glad my wife doesn't read this board.
Cheers >

Â* Â* I got my new Proxxon carver yesterday...Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me....no, it's not my Birthday yet but the better half left me use it anyhow. Â*:-* Â*Wow, I can't offer any comparison to the AutoMach but it sure out carves my Ryobi!!
Â* Â* I even compared the blades they sent with it to my FlexCut ones...they both worked the same. Â*Don't know know well those ones will hold up but they sure cut great yesterday! Â*Can't wait to get to work today, in fact...see you all later! Â* Â*Callynne

Â* Â* Oh yeah, it's great, never thought I'd end up getting so excited about power tools! Â*I feel like Tim on Tool Time! Ha! Ha! Â*
Â* Â* I continue to be VERY happy with this carver. Â*Days of using the blades that came with it and they still slice through the wood like butter! Â*I'm glad I was already working on this piece with my Ryobi, really shows how much better the Proxxon cuts.
Â* Â* They also make a sharpening stone just to fit these blades profiles, ordered it yesterday, it was only $12 something. Â*Figured even if I decide these blades aren't as good as the FlexCut ones in the long run, the stone will still come in handy as both brands of blades are the same size.
Â* Â* Oh, thanks for the Birthday wishes guys, shaping up to be a pretty darn good one! Â* Callynne
