Default Proxxon PS12 Pen Sander

Does anyone own and /or use a Proxxon PS12 Pen Sander? They're listed at MDI Woodcarvers Supply for $40.00 but you also have to get an AC adapter which is another $21.50 plus shipping on top of that.

Since I'm forced to rely more on power to get the job done I was wondering if it works well.

Thanks.

Ron, I have the pen sander and I love it!!!! I've had one for years and it has never given me a bit of trouble and I use it A LOT!

The sander itself doesn't have power, the adapter is the power supply that runs it. There is also a rotary tool that you can purchase (which I have too) and it is also powered by the adapter. I bought the Marsh Sander and have small drum sanding heads that I use with it (the rotary handpiece).

I had posted years ago, when I got this unit, that the day it 'dies' I'll be ordering another one immediately. I still feel the same way....and since then I've added a MasterCarver and Foredom Rotary System and a RAM 45 and a MasterCarver micromotor to my collection......I still wouldn't be without my little Proxxon Pen Sander and Rotary tool.

I really think you'll like a lot! Deborah

Hi Deborah,

Thank you for your response. It's always helpful to know when you're considering a purchase whether it's worth it or not.

Does it matter which adapter you use as far as power goes? There's a big difference in price? Where did you get your from?

You're welcome, Ron! I got mine from MDI, if you haven't done business with them, Wayne is terrific and will be more than happy to answer any questions you have. He won't steer you wrong or try to 'over sell' you!

If I remember correctly, the one adapter has a speed control to it, the other (mine) doesn't. I bought the rotary handpiece that has the speed control dial on it, so I didn't need the one with speed control. Like I said, that's how I'm thinking it went, ask Wayne to be sure!

I was using mine a lot yesterday, still love it!!! Good luck, let us know what you decide and if you get it, how you like it! Deborah

Hi Deborah,

Just want you to know I got my pen sander and have had time to use it a bit. At first, I wasn't sure if I would like it, but I do.

It is so fast it not only saves me time but a lot of energy that I can now put to use carving or burning.

Thanks for the feedback. I know whenever there is an investment to be in tools, I don't want to be wasting my money on something that will sit in a box.

You're welcome Ron, glad you like it! I think you'll like it even more, the more you use it. Which adapter did you decide on? Did you get the rotary handpiece too? Like I mentioned before, I use the little Marsh and drum sanders with it (the rotary handpiece) and love it! Glad I could be of help! Deborah

Hi Deborah,

I got the adapter without the speed control. The other one was a little too much for me. I already have a Wecheer Hi-torque engraver, which is a small micro-carver. It works well for my purposes.

BTW, I also have a battery operated toothbrush with a 1/2" head that moves back an forth. It has been adapted so I can stick on adhesive backed sandpaper dots that I punch out where the brush was. It works really well for small areas.

Thanks again for the feedback.
