Default Powercrafter

Well if nothing rips, slips, breaks or tears, it appears I have bought myself a Powercrafter. I would like to hear from anyone who has one about what is the learning curve like compared to my present micromotors that I have been using. Any other tips or suggestions will be appreciated.

It is not a micromotor. It runs off an air compressor at 500,00 rpms. I have never used one but have looked at them from time to time for several years. Got a chance to buy one at a REAL good price and took the leap. We'll see how it performs and I'll post results. It should be here next week sometime.

This is the 500,000rpm PH model. It lists for $409 w/out the bit set.

those came along after the initial "Paragrave" ...I don't know what they are now, but heard when they first came out, they had a plastic turbine....if so, a short life span! you might want to make sure you put a light machine oil in it pretty regular!

I looked at the Paragrave years ago when they wanted a mortgage on your house to buy one. This thing has a stainless steel body. Should be okay. The reason I posted was to see if anybody had any experience with them and any tips on using them. Oh well, I guess I'll do like everything else I've done all my life, I'll teach myself. Learn it as I go along.

Hi Doug, i have a powercrafter, had it now for about 4 years, before that i used a NEY brand.(i had it for 10 years)
if you can use a pencial then you can use this tool! i ues mine daily,
and have replaced the turbine one time,
but i REALLY use mine alot!
i would get a foot pedal for it as you don;t need 500.000 all the time, and a water trap for your airline is a must.
if you have any dental technetions in your area you can hit them up for there
used bits(they can't use them but they are still great for wood carving) i get a couple of bagges full from my brother every year and he has a lot of different bits that carving supply places don't sell.
the oil that comes with it is a vegy base
oil so if some gets on your wood it won't hurt anything. as you say the only way to learn is too use it but you will love it as soon as you try it. welll don't know what else to say but have fun
Stacey

Assuming a foot pedal does not come with it, where do I find one? The Powercrafter website does not show a foot feed. And by the way, how does a foot feed work on an air driven tool?

most carving supply house, scrollsaw suppliers etc sell foot controls...the usual price was 19.95...at least when I got mine. I like to use mine on my scrollsaw....but have one on my foredom as well..

If you are talking about electric foot feeds I have those and they are available everywhere. I don't see how though they will work with an air tool. Maybe I'm missing something.

i think powercrafter might sell them, they should have a web page somewhere out there. NEY is a brand name for these tools so you could look them up,and try treelineusa.com the next time i drive buy powercrafter i will stop in and see where you could get one, also what would a foot peddle do for you- it lets you go from 0-500.000 so you have better control of what you are doing
