Default Power Strop

This is a strop I have used for quite a while. Simple to make, I used a Craftsman 3/8 reversible drill with variable speed. I mounted it by two 3/8-24 capscrews in the holes provided for the foward handle. You may notice in this one, I used a pipe flange to screw to the block of wood, not necessary, one I did for a friend, I just put a bolt thru the block, nut on bottom side and chucked the bolt in the drill. I sometimes c-clamp this one to the bench and other times, tighten it in my vise. The wood is covered with leather and rouge is applied. I seldom need to grind my tools on a stone or sandpaper, unless a nick appears on the edge, about 15 - 20 seconds on the strop, the tools are ready to carve. I probably run my drill at about 1/3 to 1/2 speed, which is plenty of speed. By the way, this is not my idea, someone at carving described one, grabbed some scrap plywood, made this one, and it did work well. I hop if you make one, you will be as satisified as I have been.
