Default power strop

I hate to rain on the sharpener parade, our club purchased one of those power leather belt units and it seems to run to fast. I do offer a solution, you can make your own power strop from floor polisher or carpet scrubber unit and take the brushes off the unit..make sure they have the hex head drives where the brushes snap on..the unit I used is a Montgomery Wards Signarture unit and I slowed it down with a power tool control from Harbor Freight, I took the round shell off the scrubber head and there was already 4 screw holes in the casting..so I took 1-1/4in dowels and drilled pilot holes in the legs and they worked great..I put some bugle head screws in the holes and drew them up tight.. What I have used is two rotary sander disks with sections of pigskin ..that fit across the disks ( available at our local shoe repair shop) when you turn the unit on..you slow it down till you can almost see it moving..total cost maybe $35.00 at the most with the cost of the speed control from HF..I would include pics but couldnt get them downsized to fit the file size .. keep the chips flying any interested parties I can email pics to you directly if you are interested in knowing more
