If the unit is a Tormek or other brand of wet grinder it shouldn't be a problem. Any metal or abrasive residues should end up in the water bath. I use another wet grinding wheel and dust is zero.

I make knives by the stock removal method, dry grinding- tried that once in the basement, first the family complained about the smell and then the smoke detectors aoo over the house went off.

The grinder is in the garage now.

I use the Tomz Knife Massager, no noise, smell or any complaints from my wife. BTW, the machine is awesome and 1/3rd the price of the Tormek!

http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.co...ing-tools.html A link to the Tomz machine, I have the 2 head.
