| | Power honer and strop Hi all,
Wondering if anyone has used the power honer from the wood carving store. Looks like a pretty good system and is a bit cheaper than many of the power sharpening systems: http://www.woodcarvingstore.com/Shar...PowerHoner.asp
Thanks,

| | Re: Power honer and strop Mike,
If you own a lathe, make your own, it is just turned basswood.
You can use your lathe to make and operate it.
If you don't have a lathe, you could buy one for the price of that system. http://www.grizzly.com/products/item...D&site=grizzly
Used lathes should be $25.00 to $150.00, I have bought three for under $50.00 each.

if there's ANYTHING more fun to buy than new tools ...
it's a new power sharpener. |

| | Re: Power honer and strop Hey All I agree with Rick if you have a lathe and the know how make your own. I made one off a copy of our clubs which is a John Burke sharpener. I turned the basswood block on the lathe and bought a few of the felt wheels and it works great. Mine is just the motor with stepped pulleys on the motor and shaft to control the speed. You can get the pillow bearings at almost any farm supply or even some hardware stores. I had to go to a machine shop to get the shaft. I already had the motor and the whole thing cost me about $100.00.
But on the other hand I also agree with Nancy, there is nothing better than buying NEW tools. You can never have enough tools, especially carving tools.
