Default Parting Tool damaged

I was wondering why my parting tool kept tearing the fibres as I started putting detail onto my wood spirits beard...only to look and discover two small dents on both sides of the tool. Any suggestions how I can properly bring the tool back to its edge would be appreciated. I have a wet stone but I'm not sure whether I should try to bring the edge back on my own or bring it to a professional. Please help!!!

Patrick if it was me I would send it to Rick @LittleShavers. He can fix it up real good.

Patrick,
You will need to grind the end off flush before you try to sharpen it.

i agree with don,

resurfacing a new cutting edge on to a chipped v tool, gets hectic with a wet sharpening stone because its too hard to keep the angle at the right degree on both sides of the outter edges for the metal removal to get the chiped places out by hand.. (without the proper tools..)

like advised by don
a trip to littleshavers.com will put you in touch with rick.. the postage is more than the sharpening if i an quoting right still less than a new tool...

Thanks for the advise. It sounds like it will take more than a wet stone to correct the damage I have done to the tool. I have a master carver in our area so I think it best that I get his assistance and watch carefully how its done...as I expect I'll probably do it again.
