Must be a knife making period. Heres a knife I just finished up. An old friend of my dad's sent me this bent blade and a chunk of alder for a handle. The blade was etched "Made in England" and he said he picked it up in Canada a ways back. The alder branch was cut, I believe down near Menominee, Michigan, also many years ago. I think the blade is a high grade stainless, as it was a bear to sharpen, but now it is like a razor. I'll try some more Northwest Native style carving with this one.....in a while. No contest with Rick's knife, though! |

Al, Nice finish on the handle. It looks like it could take a big bite out of you if you slip. Don't slight yourself on your knifemaking ability, you are talented. I appreciate your knowledge on the history of the materials that went into it's construction. That speaks volumes to your respect of the knifemaking process and your materials. It is a definate art and knowing your media and it's origin sets you apart from many knifemakers. Last edited by rick-in-seattle; 10-04-2005 at 09:03 PM. |

Thanks for the compliment, Rick. This knife IS more of a weapon than a carving tool.....well not exactly, but it's definitely a "specific use" tool. I think I'll get some more 5/8" or 3/4" plastic tubing to store it in. Maybe even cut a shorter piece to shield the back part of the blade when using it. Al |

Al that would be a good one for removing bark..I am assuming it is sharpened on both sides?

Dave, this one is only sharpened on one side, to be used in the "draw" position by a righty! Al |

Hey Al, Great looking job, and it does look like it would be ideal for stripping bark off. GaryMc Talking
