| | Re: newbe need to sharpen little shavers begginer set Didn't you get a little instruction sheet with the strop and honing compound? Do you need to "sharpen" your tools or do you want to hone them?
Honing is okay but sharpening shouldn't be needed this fast.
Here's a link to Little Shavers how to maintain your tools/sharpening web page. http://littleshavers.com/Sharpening.html

| | Re: newbe need to sharpen little shavers begginer set Marty, were those tools in need of sharpening when you got them from Rick, or did they "dull up" that fast?
Rick has a pretty good re-sharpening policy, so check with him directly.

| | Re: newbe need to sharpen little shavers begginer set I am surprised/shocked the set came dull from littleshavers. All of the tools I have recieved from them came sharpened and ready to use.
Do a google on scary sharpen system.
But first I would contact littleshavers about the problem. |

| | Re: newbe need to sharpen little shavers begginer set I agree with Kenny and AlArchie, If they are dull and you haven't used them I would definitly call Little Shavers. If you have used them they may need stropping unless you've abused the cutting edge in which case they may need to be resharpened. Not trying to be critical just trying to be helpful.

| | Re: newbe need to sharpen little shavers begginer set oh no they did come sharp, sorry. I'm just wanting to learn how so when the time comes I wont have to take time trying to figure it out then. want to get ahead of the game. hee hee.
I have used them allot and they aren't as sharp as they were. I guess I just need to put an edge back on them. Not hone them thought I would like to know how to do it too.
Also one of the tools is a "v-gouge" or what ever it's called. How do I use the strop for the little tool? One side of the strop is radiused and the other is not covered with wood.
The strop has (one radius) on the one side. Is this suppose to be used on both gouges that come in the set since they are not the same radius? |

| | Re: newbe need to sharpen little shavers begginer set Marty,
The V-tool may be stropped on the edge without leather; one inside edge on the leather, the other edge will form a small groove in the wood.
Then the tool is flipped over and the same process is used for the opposite side.
The strop radius will work for all the gouges in this set.
Just a note: I sharpen and carve with every tool that leaves my shop.
Not to say I couldn't miss something, but 30 years inspecting machined parts makes it unlikely.
Thank you for your confidence gentlemen.
