| | New Tool - table saw.... Ok so same mother-in-law who gave me the Woodcraft GC gave me $150 to Home Depot and I already had a $50 HD GC. SOOOOOO...
Although it was the cheapest, I now own my first table saw.... the Ryobi 10" saw with stand.... so half my $ is gone and after the next truck gets in, I will own the Ryobi band saw.
The first 2 items I felt I needed to do my carving without having to go over and bother my friends. So I can cut down my wood and even trim/band saw excess or make cutouts.
I am so excited.... and total I think I will spend $11 out of pocket for tax.
Okay... the bad part of getting a new toy.... I about killed myself last night... I have never seen a piece of wood fly like that. But I now know what kickback is and how to avoid it..... glad I happened to be standing to the side... can't say the kitchen to garage metal door enjoyed being pounded by that chunk of 2 x 4. Didn't even leave a mark in the door....
I will let you know if I have all my fingers after I get the band saw.... If Ron can carve blind, then I can carve with 2 fingers, right??

I have two great books on the table saw that I would recomend reading.
Table saw tips and tricks
by Kenneth Burton
and
Jim Tolpin's Table saw Magic.
Also use the safety equipment. I installed a Merlin spliter with anti kickback spalls on my Delta TS.
The first thing you should make with the bandsaw are a few good pushstick for the table saw to keep your hands away from the blade. I can post or send some decent patterns for you if you would like.

| | Re: New Tool.... KC,
Congratulations! And NEVER, NEVER get your hands or clothes close to the blade!!! It's really never necessary for you to put your fingers near a moving blade. Use push sticks and wait until the blade stops before adjusting anything. Short cuts on a table saw or band saw leave short fingers and a mess to clean up when you recover! You don't have to lose a finger to develop respect for a saw, you can just start out with that respect and keep your fingers!

| | Re: New Tool.... also make sure you have one straight edge on the board you are cutting and keep it tight against the fence or miter gauge.
oh yeah a "splitter" is installed behind the blade to keep the cut from closing back up and pinching the blade. |

| | Re: New Tool.... and also keep the blade height down to about 18 to 1/4 above the wood you are cutting, if you do get your hand in it, at least it won't be deep....good idea to do some reading on safety of tools.....they can get you in a hurry, especially a tablesaw! |

| | Re: New Tool.... Man that sounds great, good luck with your new tools. Years ago I sent a 1/2 chunk off wood thru the sheet rock wall in my garage so don't ever take your eyes off what your doing with a tablesaw. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
