| | New tool rack for the basement work space Since I had to move from the shop in the garage and my tool rack is mounted on the wall above my workbench out there I decided I needed a tool rack in the basement too. Previously the tools were lined up on the desktop here, problem was they took up practically the whole top.
…anyway this is what I came up with.
Next up is a new stand to replace the portable Workmate to mount the carvers arm to. |

| | Re: New tool rack for the basement work space Looks like a good rack. I built a tray with dividers for tools that I have out, but I think I like this better; gives you a little clearance for gripping the tool when you pick it up.
How do you like the Tormek?

| | Re: New tool rack for the basement work space Thanks Wade, I was leaning heavily towards the trays also but felt they would take up to much room on the desk top (24x60) so I went with the rack and tray combo…minus the bottom of the tray and just used the tool rest to elevate them for ease of picking up. Plus I wanted to keep the Tormek where it’s sitting. Speaking of that, I’m liking it a lot especially the honing wheels. I’m still learning and having some difficulty with deep gauges, especially 3mm and V-tools. Flatter tools and even medum gouges like #3 – 8 I’ve gotten down pretty well, 9, 10, &11’s are a bit harder but getting better. I’ve never used the other systems out there so I can’t compare it to anything else. I’m about to just send off my smaller veiners and v-tools to have them sharpened for me. |
