On the handle, Rubberize it if it slips. Anyway, that is what I did with the little brides.
Hmmm a new knife web site. One can never have enough knives. |

| | Re: New Helvie Knife! I definitely want to buy a Helvie knife but I’m in Southcentral PA and there is no shop nearby that I know of that sells Helvies. I don’t want to order one as I want to trial fit it in my hand. Any suggestions? Thanks

| | Re: New Helvie Knife! smalljawz, go to a carving show, someone will be selling them.....as for a slippery handle, never had the problem, but you can always put the handle against a reciprocating sander (small drum) and sand some finger grooves in it, fine sand it and refinish..good as new! or if you don't want or care about the wood color/finish, use "dip-it" tool handle coating. |

| | Re: New Helvie Knife! Unfortunately now that summer is coming I’ll never get away from work. Anyone know of a shop that sells a large selection of these knives say 1 or 2 hour drive from South-central PA, that I could visit to check these knives out.

| | Re: New Helvie Knife! Sorry for the confusion. The point I was trying to make was the variety of handle designs available when you buy direct from Helvie at http://www.sharp-stuff.com . I was not complaining about the handle, only trying to bring the variety available to everyone's attention. The vast majority of carving tool suppliers only sell 1 or 2 different handle types. It would be cost prohibitive for them to carry each knife in 4 or 5 different handle types. Take a look at the web link, and you will see all of the options available.
Thanks,

| | Re: New Helvie Knife! My confusion Dan and my apologies for that. O have a couple Helvies and like them. The handles are of the finger grip kind and have not found the handles to be any more slippiery than other knives. I have denny's flexcut, about 4 Dastra( some of the first kives), many different pocket knives with a Boker being the one I like most but either I lost it or it was taken, several case pocket kives and one of them I carry everywhere.
Agian I apologize for my confusion and you are correct. Many different handles for a great knife. |

| | Re: New Helvie Knife! Love both of my Helvie knives!!! Have to agree about the bevel though, I spent some time stoning the larger one just to take it out and it made a tremendous difference. I have tried others but I think I'll stick with these... |

| | Re: New Helvie Knife! Hello Carvers
Just to let you guys and gals know that we are in the process of building a Helvie Knife web site. The site will also have a picture and description of every knife we make, it is true some vendors do not carry every different handle shape we make, but in time you will be able to see them all and if you like a particular style then you can contact your vendor about getting the particular you one you want. We hope to have this done sometime this summer.
Thanks
Rich

| | Re: New Helvie Knife! Can't wait to see a Helvie website. I don't own any, but I know quality when I see it. Will Helvie be offering blades alone? I really prefer making my own handles.
If a knife handle feels slippery, a piece of hockey tape works wonders. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
