| | Re: New Carving Stand Thanks for the positive feedback guys. I wasn’t even going to post it, never imagine anyone else would be interested, I just thought it was a fixture I wanted but couldn’t find and then the ideas kind of started taking on a life of their own. Everyone has their favorite way for holding things and for me the freestanding fixture is working out well. If you use a carvers arm one advantage to mounting it on the stand over clamping it to the bench is that you can gain access to the piece from the sides far better thus making cuts in the opposite direction a whole lot easier, for me anyway, because the bench isn’t in the way. I also notice I don’t need to adjust the piece as often to get it situated right, instead I move around it. I will be making a few modifications now that I’ve tried it out like adding a second swinging light bar, I would really like two lights one on either side. Also when I have the second knuckle in the arm the Foredom seems a little to far back, although I haven’t used it yet, so some type of extension would be nice too, then again it may be easier to just remove the knuckle or remove it (Foredom) all together, (I kind of like it to my right and behind me) we’ll see… Even though I’ve never carved a relief panel, and don’t have one planned…yet, I want to try making the tilting top option for the stand also. I think it would make a great addition adding even more versatility. If anyone REALLY is interested in the stand or the mounting plate fixtures send me a PM I’ll see what we can do and if there is enough REAL interest in these I’ll explore the market with it. I’ll keep you posted on the relief table fixture as it develops too. |

| | Re: New Carving Stand Hey - I really like this stand. I am looking to make one like it. Can I ask if you required any welds or special metal working tools to make this? Really like the design. Nicely done. Do you have a design for the relief carving table attachment yet?

| | Re: New Carving Stand I started on the table today; it will utilize the existing carvers arm rather then a new metal fixture. Saved a few bucks that way. I was going to use T-track and nifty cam levers but again I decided on saving money over gadgets. That was tough though ‘cause I’m a gadget lover I should have some pic’s up soon. There are a few welds on the stand and I did use a metal chop saw, drill press, welder, torch and file. I have a new design for the swinging light bar that will function and look a lot better that I will be starting next week. I’ll post pic’s of that too when done. |

| | Re: New Carving Stand Hmm - yeah, not having that kind of equipment I guess I'll have to either create something in wood or purchase something commercially available. But this looks like a REALLy nice design. Wish I had the capability to make one for myself.
Ah well. Can't do everything. !
