Default I NEED more tools...but its just a mini need.

Mini Gouge. I am carving a sheep and wanted to mimic Shawn Cipa's texturing for the wooly part and as the carving is small....I now need to get me a mini gouge. Any brand recommendation? Or shall I just visit Little Shaver's...where all the best tools live?

how mini do you need ? pfeil has nice u-gouge (#11), in 1mm or even in 0.5 mm ,,,this is very small... i have a 2mm, and that is doing fine lines already...sharpening is tricky though

Hmm the block of wood is 2" by 2" and I am planning "curly wool about" 5 mm ..so I imagine I would need something about 2mm or less . Tell me more about sharpening please. Just found Dock YArd tools at little shavers. Need to ask Rick what the profiles are on them . I cant see if they are V-s or U
. I think I need a U and a V and a straight

Hate to tell you this Mischief but I think the Dockyards sold. But you are right in acquiring them. They are very nice to have, all of them and they hold an edge a long time (probably because they are not used a much as other tools).

Flexcut has a set and individual from 1.5 to 2.5 mm. Nice and stays sharp also.

I have the Two Cherries micro set. They are fantastic, however if you are budget minded, go for the dockyard. I am not a fan of the Ramelson micro's they dont seem to cut that well for me. here is a link for the Two Cherries if you want to check them out. http://www.toolsforworkingwood.com/M...gory_Code=TXPC

Thanks for all the advice guys!!...Yup, I have to be budget minded. Just finished technically my first carving**. Bought from Rick's a Kershaw Double Cross and a Denny's gouge to speed up the rough out and now I see me needing more tools =( .

**(I dont count that half completed carving of a dolphin I did for my niece when I was a teen. Stopped because I CUT myself. She was happy with that rough out of a dolphin for years until she was in her teens herself and came accusing me of giving a 5 year old a phallic symbol. =)
