Default Need help with tool I.D.

I purchased a collection of carving tools from a retiring carver.

My problem is I can't I.D. one of the sets of tools.

I have seen the manufacturers mark before; but I can't figure out the tool maker.

I appreciate your help, Rick

Rick, that is a rare older tool made by J.A. Henckels from Germany. I think nowadays they are known for making Kitchen cutlery but in the past they have made all sorts of "edged" tools from scissors to carving tools to straight razors and even pocket knives. That should be a valuable antique tool made from the finest solingen steels and good for carving too. The two-men on your tool above the numbers is the Henckels emblem. Hope that helps.

GaryMc & Redbird46

Thank you, I was at a loss for the tool company.

You're the best, Rick

GaryMc & Redbird46, thanks as well. As soon as I saw that logo, I knew I had seen it before, but couldn't place it. If I look in my kitchen drawer, I'll remember where I've seen it before. Great cutlery! Mike

Henckels it is, I have a couple of their last line of carving gouges. They stopped making carvers tools about 25 years ago, or so. Wish I had a full set of their tools, but money was tight back then. (Well, I suppose it still is!) Great tools, and hold a good edge. You got yourself a good quality buy there Rick!

They make some nice pocket knives too. Here's a small collection of whittlers.

When I saw the photo I said to myself, "I have some tools with that mark!" Sure enough, I have three carving tools that my wife gave me years and years ago. I believe she bought them at a kitchen cutlery shop in Pasadena.
