Default More tools

Anyone have a good source for intermediate tools
from Solingen?
Considering some new additions to the shop and thinking
about Pfeil, Solingen, Two Cherries. Tell me what you like
and why?
Thanks and good carvin!

I have one old bench knife I bought at Engler's in Branson in the 80's that is Solingen steel and cuts great but when I think of the sharpness and quality dependability of all my gouges and v-tools I always lean toward Dennys and Pfeil! I think you can take a good knive, a Dennys v-gouge and a Pfeil small gouge and make anything? I wouldn't mind a nice full set of Pfeil palm tools.

I have all of the pfeil palm tools and a dozen of the intermediate tools. They are wonderful. They come extremely sharp and stay that way with only occasional stropping.

These folks have some good tools too. Several brands, all good. Pretty much depends on personal preferance. Think they have a sale going on right now. I know they did a week or so ago. Good folks too.

My daughter gave me some money for Christmas to buy some more carving tools (like I really need more!). Anyway, I thought about buying either some Stubai or Pfeil palm tools since I do not have any of either brand. My question, I have heard that Stubai's do not come sharp and Pfeil does. Is there any truth to this? From my research, it seems that the quality of both are about equal other than the sharpness. I have no problem sharpening them, however for the price paid, they should come sharp. Comments please.

Jerry, I can only go by the tools that I have and I bought the set of Stubai/Kaisersett Caricature Palm tools and among my many tools I have three Pfeil tools and three Drake tools I got from someone on Ebay. I had to work on the Stubai set to get them as sharp as possible and am generally satisfied even though I may reach for one of my Dennys tools first. The 3 Pfeil and 3 Drakes tools are "scary" sharp and I will use one of them first if they fit the need. If I were going to buy a new set I would go with Dennys or Pfeil and go to the Drakesknives website and fill in with some of Gil's small handmade gouges and especially his small v-tools, I love them!
Hope that helps, Norb

Norb, based on Drakes lifetime warranty and your recommendation, I ordered some of his tools. Thanks for the info!
