| | Re: More Knives I would definately like to see the whole process. Are there any special tools required to make these knives? I would love to make a couple for myself.
I sometimes wish that I had a certain shaped blade while I'm trying to carve something. It would be great to make one up rather than searching for something that may or may not exist!!

Looks like I need to spend more time on the handle when I make my next one. I usually spend hours shaping the blade and minutes on the handle.

| | | Re: More Knives Okay, I will start photographing the process of making an ebony handled carving knife with a 1-1/2 inch blade.
When finished, I will post it on Picturetrail with descriptions of the process. |

| | Re: More Knives Thanks RIS for the pictures and knife making. Do you temper after you shape the knife blade? I guess that is kind of silly, Of course you do. How else will it hold an edge. Duh!! Somethimes I really amaze myself on how silly of questions I ask,eh!
I use old broken files and use a mixture of water and oil to temper the blades. Now Mine are crude and nothing compared to yours. My very first had electric tape as the handle. Works pretty good but not prettiful as my granddaughter says. Got to get her to say beautifull. But she is so cue and I think she is pretty strong. Well, she has me wrapped around her little finger.
Safety first then enjoyment

| | Re: More Knives Hey Rick, this is really neat. I hope you don't mind a few questions along the way. I know nothing about this knife making stuff.
How do you heat up the rod? Would a propane torch get it hot enough?
How do you cut the shape of the blade once it's flattened?
By the way, I ove that handle in the maple burl..

Is the O1 steel a good choice for your blades?
